Material: Ram Horn
This authentic ram horn Shofar is hand painted by the israeli artist Lily Shohat and is decorated with fish in blue and gold. Mentioned in the Tanach (Hebrew for Bible) over 70 times, the Shofar is used powerfully as an instrument of God in accomplishing His purpose. Jesus Christ told His disciples in Matthew 4:19: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” As the early Christians followed Christ’s command to follow Him and lead others to the Lord, the fish symbol became a natural extension of Christ’s command and also a way to recognize and identify others who knew the symbol’s meaning. In the Scriptures, the word shofar – שׁוֹפָר first occurs in Exodus 19:16 when the Torah was first given to Israel – Shavuot (i.e., “Pentecost”): “On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud shofar blast”קל שׁפָר חָזָק מְאד”, so that all the people in the camp trembled…. And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder.” This shofar blast is sometimes called the “first trump” of God.
*Measurement is around the outside curve of the Shofar !
